Restorative Yoga

2–3 minutes

I just had my first restorative yoga class- I have been to Iyengar classes before- but they have their own flow, as well as restorative workshops… but this class, was for me. Not to learn to teach, but just to learn to take my time, to stretch, to align. My teacher Rebeca Acosta, has a really great way about her. She is a vibrant and fierce soul- that is able to be so gentle, smooth and funny- charming and calming all within the minute.
Today’s class was with 3 other more mature ladies- and it was great.
Note to self: I really want to practice more hip openers on the wall, as well as trying to bend forward. We used a mita for the first part and it felt great… also the circles with the bend knee coming in and around in circles was really great. Everything was great- some things I had done before- but the way Rebeca approached them and in the sequence it was a brand new experience… an experience, that my body really enjoyed.
I was tired this morning- I still am, as last night the people behind the wall had a VERY loud party with lots of singing and screaming “Aye-yi-yi-yi…” until 6 in the morning. It was surreal the sound- I am in a nice room- modern, I could be in a room in Saskatchewan- but the sounds coming from outside my house were not from Canada… they were from the Pueblo in Mexico City. Hahah

After class- we stopped by the tamale/taco stand on the street and we got 2 cups of coffee (sweetened with cane sugar), two tamales (one mole and one spicy green salsa), a glass of beet juice all for 70 pesos. To be honest, not including drinking the beet juice (because i’m saving it for later- trying not to drink as much while I eat) I could have eaten two tamales… I think right now my stomach is a little bit stretched as I was eating a lot over the past months. Eating almost every 3 hours during the working day and sometimes eating again before bed… so eating at least 3-4 times a day, usually a calorie rich food or snack. It’s time to reconnect with myself and my health. And right now-  I am going to have a little nap.
