In the past 9 months I have came into a lot of different toxins, pollutants and chemicals. So- as a way to say thank-you to my body for still running… I want to do a little cleanse, without breaking the bank.
NORMALLY, I would have gone to Nutters and bough a $45-$80.00 herbal cleanse to follow for the next week or two… but instead, I am just going to follow a cleanse from my “Ayurvedic Medicine” book by Sebastian Pole, and try the “One-Week Cure”.
It reads in his book, on page 104, that this is an amazing way to heal man disorders. It is specifically used during convalescence, digestive problems, fevers, excess mucous and toxaemia to clear ama and enkindle the digestive fire.
Well- I don’t have a fever… but my digestive fire could be a lot stronger as I have been showing signs of ama (toxins) in my body. Even today I scraped off a fair amount of Kapha Ama. (White, thick coating on tongue). This was not do to my diet yesturday- as yesturday I fasted and only had 1 glass of lemon juice and 4 glasses of water throughout the day. I also had a full size, healthier bowel movement this morning- which also, would have been from my previous days of eating.
SO the DIET:
1. Start with peya (liquid) diet: combine in a ratio of 1 part rice: 16 parts of water. Cook for 1 hour. Eat for 1-2 days.
2. Follow this with leha (lickable) diet: semi- solid diet. Rice: Water at 1:8 for 1-2 days.
3. Then, bojya (chewable) diet: soft diet. Rice and water at 1:4 for 1-2 days. This is the same recipe as Kicadi/Kichari.
4. Finally, bhaksya (firm) diet: This is the normal ratio for cooking rice: rice and water for 1:2 for 1 day and then eat a wider-ranging diet as normal. (Caraka Samhita Sutrasthana 27.250-256)
Add a small amount of cumin and turmeric powder along with some fresh ginger and ghee (1/2 tsp) and a pinch of salt if appropriate.
Strength of fire dictates the quantity that should be eaten.
So- eat mindfully and be mindful and stop eating when you feel 3/4 full and then stop. Following the Ayurvedic guidelines the food should be eaten with no less than 2 hours in between meals.
So now: I am going to practice yoga, make my rice water and tonight I will give myself an Abhyanga massage to also help release toxins that are in my body, fat and lymph nodes.
My intentions are to follow this diet until Saturday evening- which I am part of a potluck. But I will try and only eat as much as my digestive strength tells me I have in the moment and then on the weekend move to Khichari mixtures.
